My My My Delilah

Thursday, 8 December 2011

My darling pal Eni has been more than a little in love with singer/songwriter Delilah since she featured on the Chase & Status track 'Time'. As Eniola and I share a similar musical taste (most of the time) I was happy to accompany her to Delilah's gig at Hoxton Bar & Grill to see what all the fuss was about.

It didn't take me very long to understand the hype. Delilah took to the stage, striking in a white halter-neck jumpsuit she treated us to an assortment of tracks from both her Go EP and upcoming debut album as well as a gorgeous cover of Minnie Riperton’s Inside My Love - a song she hoped “to do justice” – and that she most certainly did.

Rushing effortlessly from gentle, breathy harmonies to mighty cries I couldn’t help but be impressed by Delilah's incredible vocal range which accentuates the raw emotion of her lyrics to perfection. Set against a backdrop of penetrating synths, soft pulsing and twisted beats Delilah’s sound is hauntingly melodic, atmospheric and unique.

It has been a while since an artist has gotten under my skin but Delilah, real name Paloma Stoecker, managed to do just that.

MASSIVE girl crush alert.
